       Sea Sprite Association Website
Welcome . . .
This site is dedicated to the Sea Sprite, a family of classic sailing yachts that began with the Sea Sprite 23 designed by Carl Alberg in 1957, later followed by the 28', 30' and 34' Sea Sprites designed by Alfred E. (Bill) Luders Jr. This site provides owners, admirers, and enthusiasts a place to share information about these wonderful sailboats.

The original Sea Sprite Association was founded in 1968, designated as Fleet 1. It was a very active racing fleet on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. It was not uncommon for them to put 10-15 Sea Sprite 23s on the starting line on any given day. The fleet lost momentum a few years later until it was dusted off in 1994 and people realized what they had been missing. The Association now boasts of having over 200 boats on their roster, although not all skippers are active members.

The 23' Sea Sprite was one of the longest production keel sailboats ever built in the United States. With the first Sea Sprite built around 1958, it spans nearly four decades. Clark Ryder completed the last boat in July of 1986; hull #786. Its graceful and classic lines can be seen in just about every cove and harbor along Narragansett Bay, here in Rhode Island. But Sea Sprite 23 owners were an adventurous lot, finding their way to spots as far away as Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Caribou, Maine and Jacksonville, Florida.
